UNDERSTAND YOUR CHOICES
There’s no single right plan for everyone. Start with the basics, then consider your doctors, prescriptions, budget, and what matters most to you.
01 / MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT · MEDIGAP
Original Medicare covers many healthcare services, but you still pay a share of the costs. Medigap helps pay certain deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, depending on the policy.
Prepare to compare Supplement plans →Keep in mind: Premiums, benefits, and eligibility vary. Timing matters: your Medigap open enrollment period is generally the six months starting when you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. State protections may also apply.
Prepare your comparison checklist →02 / MEDICARE ADVANTAGE · PART C
Medicare Advantage is an alternative to Original Medicare, offered by Medicare-approved private insurers. Plans provide your Part A and Part B benefits, and most include Part D drug coverage.
Prepare to compare Advantage plans →Keep in mind: You generally continue paying your Part B premium, even with a $0 plan premium. Plan availability depends on where you live. Medigap cannot be used to pay Medicare Advantage cost-sharing.
Prepare your comparison checklist →03 / PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLANS · PART D
Part D helps pay for covered generic and brand-name prescription drugs. With Original Medicare, you can choose a standalone drug plan; most Medicare Advantage plans include drug coverage.
Prepare to compare drug coverage →Keep in mind: Even if you take few medications, enrollment timing matters. Going without Part D or other creditable drug coverage can lead to a late enrollment penalty.
Prepare your comparison checklist →04 / DENTAL INSURANCE
Original Medicare generally does not cover routine dental care. A standalone dental policy, or dental benefits within some Medicare Advantage plans, may help with the cost of oral care.
Prepare to compare dental options →Keep in mind: Coverage for implants and major services varies. Medicare may cover certain dental services directly connected to covered medical treatment.
Prepare your comparison checklist →PROTECT WHAT MATTERS
From a routine checkup to an unexpected hospital stay, healthcare costs can add up. Appropriate coverage helps you plan for expenses and access covered care with greater confidence.

A FEW COMMON QUESTIONS
You don’t have to know all the answers to get started.
No. A Medicare Supplement policy helps pay certain costs alongside Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage provides your Medicare benefits through a private plan. They are different coverage paths, and Medigap does not cover Medicare Advantage cost-sharing.
With Original Medicare, drug coverage usually comes from a separate Part D plan. Most Medicare Advantage plans already include Part D. Check your existing coverage before making changes, especially if you have employer, union, or other drug benefits.
With Original Medicare and a standard Medigap policy, you can use providers who accept Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans may have provider networks. Confirm both your doctor and hospital participate in the specific plan before enrolling.
Original Medicare generally does not cover routine cleanings, fillings, dentures, or implants. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer dental benefits, and standalone dental plans are another option. Benefits, waiting periods, and limits vary.
Bring your doctors’ names, medication names and dosages, preferred pharmacy, current coverage information, and questions about your budget and travel needs. Keep Medicare numbers and sensitive health information out of public forms.
Your enrollment choices can depend on your employer coverage and other circumstances. Ask your employer benefits administrator how your coverage works with Medicare before delaying enrollment or changing benefits.
